Wild Indigo Herbal Skincare

A concentrated facial oil for hydration, barrier support + smoother-looking skin. The formula combines emollient oils with spilanthes and aromatic botanicals that have real pharmacologic or dermatologic research behind them, while keeping cosmetic claims separate from what has only been shown in laboratory studies.

Ingredients

Spilanthes extract, prickly pear, evening primrose, squalane, Italian extra-virgin olive oil, and essential oils of frankincense, lavender, helichrysum, rose and chamomile.

What Each Ingredient Actually Does

Spilanthes extract - local sensory + anti-inflammatory research. Spilanthes/Acmella contains spilanthol, a compound studied for local anesthetic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity in preclinical research. Cosmetic claims about dramatic wrinkle reduction are not strongly established in independent human trials, so we use it for its botanical activity without pretending it is injectable skincare in a bottle.

Prickly pear oil - barrier lipids + antioxidant support. Rich in linoleic acid, tocopherols and phytosterols, prickly pear oil helps replenish skin lipids and reduce moisture loss. Human clinical research is limited, but its fatty-acid profile is well suited to dry or depleted-feeling skin.

Evening primrose oil - essential fatty acids. High in linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid, both important to skin-barrier function. Oral evening primrose has mixed clinical evidence for eczema, but topically the oil functions primarily as an emollient source of barrier-supportive lipids.

Squalane - hydration + barrier support. Squalane is a skin-compatible emollient that reduces transepidermal water loss and improves softness without feeling especially heavy. It is widely used in dermatologic skincare for dry or compromised skin.

Extra-virgin olive oil - antioxidant-rich emollience. Olive oil supplies oleic acid, squalene and phenolic compounds. It softens and seals in moisture, although high-oleic oils can irritate or disrupt the barrier in some eczema-prone skin, so patch testing matters.

Frankincense essential oil - anti-inflammatory + antimicrobial laboratory research. Boswellia-derived aromatic compounds have shown anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity in preclinical studies. Strong human facial-skincare trials are lacking.

Lavender essential oil - antimicrobial + calming skin research. Lavender oil has demonstrated antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity in laboratory and animal studies. Human evidence for wound healing is still limited, and essential oil can irritate sensitive skin.

Helichrysum essential oil - anti-inflammatory + wound-healing tradition. Helichrysum has promising anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial laboratory data and a long topical herbal tradition for bruised or damaged-looking skin, but robust human trials are sparse.

Rose essential oil - antioxidant + anti-inflammatory potential. Rose oil and rose extracts show antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in preclinical research and are used cosmetically for dry or sensitive-feeling skin.

Chamomile essential oil - soothing inflammation. Chamomile compounds such as bisabolol and apigenin have anti-inflammatory activity and are widely used in topical products intended to calm irritated skin.

🌿 How to Use

Shake gently before use. At night, massage a small amount into clean skin and allow it to absorb before moisturizer, if desired. Start slowly if your skin is sensitive.
