Know Before You Book
Primitive Really Does Mean Primitive.
We want the romance of sleeping outside without any fuzzy expectations about the practical part. Campsites are kept simple and guests arrive fully self-contained.
No campsite toilet. Bring a portable camping toilet or commercial WAG bags; human waste and toilet paper must leave with you.
No campsite shower. There are no shower facilities at the campsites.
No electrical, water or sewage hookups. Unlimited Berkey-filtered drinking water is available for campers at Knob N' Wood Retreat Center - bring a bottle or container to fill.
Pack it in, pack it out. Trash, food scraps, pet waste and every other thing you bring into camp leaves with you.

Coolers for Camping Guests
Free 80-quart porch cooler: Camping guests are welcome to use the large cooler on the porch. Bring your ice and keep food and drinks chilled here, so you can leave your own cooler at home and skip carrying it into the forest.
Portable cooler rental: A handheld cooler is also available to rent for taking along to camp. Ask us before your visit about availability and rental details.
Need Gear?
A four-person tent or premium insulated tree hammock with integrated bug netting from Kentucky-grown Sheltowee Hammock Company may be available to rent.

For select Wild Indigo retreats, primitive camping is offered as an optional overnight add-on so you can stay close to the land and let the experience unfold a little more slowly.
The Receiving · Full Weekend · $55. Friday, November 6 through Sunday, November 8, 2026. Check-in begins at 2:00 PM Friday and checkout is by 11:00 AM Sunday.
The Receiving · Saturday Night Only · $27.50. Check in as early as 8:00 AM Saturday, November 7, and checkout by 11:00 AM Sunday.
An optional add-on. Retreat admission and camping are separate. Choose your camping stay and pay directly through Wild Indigo on Shopify.
Primitive standards still apply. Retreat campers arrive self-contained and follow the same leave-no-trace, fire, water, wildlife and arrival guidance as every Wild Indigo camper.
Leave Only Footprints
The Forest Is the Host, Too.
Wild Indigo is living habitat first. These few agreements keep camping possible without asking the land, wildlife or the next guest to pay for our stay.
Fire Belongs in One Place
Campfires are permitted only in the commUnity artisan-welded fire pit, and only when host guidance and current conditions say it is safe. No private campsite fires or new fire rings.
Admire, Don't Harvest
Stay on established trails and durable surfaces. Please do not pick, dig, cut, forage or collect plants, mushrooms, roots, flowers or firewood without permission.
Wildlife Gets Right of Way
Keep food, scented toiletries and trash sealed. Never feed or approach wildlife, beehives, nests or farm animals.
The Pond Is Wild Water
Our two-acre pond has no lifeguard. Swim, paddle and float at your own risk; supervise children closely and use properly fitted life jackets.
Pets Are Forest Guests, Too
Keep pets leashed or reliably contained, prevent chasing wildlife or visiting neighboring campsites, and pack out all pet waste.
Let Night Sound Like Night
Keep music, generators, lights and voices low - especially after dark - so neighboring guests can hear the forest instead of each other.
Soap & gray water: never wash dishes, bodies or gear directly in the pond, creek or wetlands. Use biodegradable soap away from natural water and follow host guidance for small amounts of plain gray water.
Arrive Gently
A Better Stay Starts Before the Tent Goes Up.
Forest roads, soft ground and after-dark navigation have their own opinions. A little preparation keeps arrival easy.
Arrival, Unloading & Parking
If your campsite is below the upper ridge, you’re welcome to park temporarily beside Knob ’N Wood Retreat Center while you unload your vehicle and set up camp. Our main driveway area is small, so please leave this space clear once you’re settled so vehicles have room to turn around.
After unloading and setting up, please move your vehicle to the half-moon-shaped parking area at the top of the driveway for the remainder of your stay. It’s directly across from you as you turn into the driveway, just below and to the left of the Wild Indigo property sign.
Guests staying at Luna’s Meadow for Stargazing or Forest Portal can unload at the top of the ridge directly at their campsites.

Save It Before You Drive
Screenshot your camping-area name, property address, booking confirmation, map and arrival instructions before leaving home.
Aim for Daylight
Daylight arrival is strongly encouraged for easier navigation and setup. If you are delayed, use the contact details in your Wild Indigo booking confirmation before entering the property.
Follow the Marked Route
Use only marked or host-approved routes and park only where directed. Please never drive onto trails, meadows, wetlands or around gates and barriers.
Bring the Forest Basics
Pack a headlamp, sturdy shoes, rain gear, insect repellent, tick-removal tool, season-appropriate bedding and life jackets for children or less-confident swimmers.
Leaving Well
Take the Memories. Leave the Tiny Things, Too.
Before rolling out, do one last slow scan of your campsite: trash, food, toilet waste, pet waste, tent stakes, twist ties, foil, bottle caps, tissues and crumbs all come with you. Return shared items where directed, make absolutely sure any communal fire is cold, and let us know when you have departed.
