Samhain + Halloween
Sound Bath in the Forest

An immersive late-October gathering of candlelight, costumes, Halloween food, seasonal libations, live violin, forest ritual, and layered sound with Cat of Cat & Owl Alchemy and Elise Dixie Jane.

Arrival begins at 4:00 PMOutdoor Sound Bath begins at 5:00 PMPekin, Indiana

Halloween meets the turning season

Beautifully strange. Warmly welcoming.

This gathering takes inspiration from Samhain, the seasonal threshold at the end of harvest and beginning of the darker half of the year, while remaining completely open to anyone who loves Halloween, autumn, The Witch’s New Year, music, food, costumes, candlelight, and gathering in the forest.

Costumes are welcome

Come witchy, woodland, glamorous, ghostly, strange, handmade, elegant, theatrical, cozy, or simply dressed for a cold October evening. Costumes are encouraged, never required.

No spiritual résumé required

You do not need to practice witchcraft, Paganism, or any particular spiritual tradition. Anything we offer as ritual or reflection will be explained, optional, and held lightly.

A candlelit arrival

Follow the path into the evening.

The experience begins at 4:00 PM, before the Sound Bath. The arrival hour is part of the event: a slow transition from ordinary Saturday into the forest at Halloween.

Arrive + settle

Park, find your sound-bath nest, add your blankets and layers, and give yourself time to actually land.

Walk the candle path

Candlelight and soft Halloween details guide the gathering space without turning the forest into a haunted attraction.

Enter the handmade wizarding walk-up

Our arrival path will include the handmade Harry Potter-inspired Halloween pieces, fairy houses, and wizarding-world details we have collected, built, and added to for more than twelve years. It is nostalgic, playful, and meant to feel magical rather than frightening.

Visit the candy station

Adults and children are both invited to receive a little Halloween candy on arrival. We will include a clearly separated gluten-free and vegan selection alongside the traditional candy assortment.

Eat + sip

Halloween-inspired food and libations will be waiting while the forest shifts toward evening.

Settle before 5:00 PM

The Sound Bath begins promptly at 5:00 PM, so the final part of the hour is for getting warm, comfortable, and ready.

Children are welcome here too

Bring the little weirdos you love.

If this sounds like your child’s kind of evening, we would love to have them in the forest with us. This is not being designed as an adults-only Halloween gathering. It is a shared seasonal experience where children and adults can both enjoy the food, candy, costumes, candlelight, music, and atmosphere.

A family-welcome arrival hour

The candy station, food, costumes, forest wandering, and arrival experience give children something tangible and playful to step into before the Sound Bath begins.

Sound without perfection

No one is expected to “perform relaxation.” Families may shift positions, step away, get water, or care for a child’s needs as they arise. The goal is presence, not perfect stillness.

Come solo · come together

You do not need to arrive already belonging to someone.

Coming on your own is completely welcome. You will not be expected to manufacture conversation, find a partner, or prove that you are social enough to belong here.

If you are coming alone

The arrival hour gives you easy, low-pressure ways to enter the evening: follow the candle path, wander the forest, visit the candy station, eat, sip, settle into your sound-bath nest, or simply take everything in at your own pace.

You can be deeply social, quietly present, or somewhere in between. There is no correct amount of interaction required.

Your experience, your choice

No sound-bath experience, spiritual background, or retreat vocabulary is required. Curiosity is enough.

You may rest, move, change positions, step away, stay quiet, decline a prompt, skip a ritual, care for a child, or participate in the way that actually works for your body.

Need a little extra care to feel comfortable? Please tell us before the gathering about dietary, sensory, mobility, or accessibility needs so we can plan honestly and thoughtfully with you.

The Halloween table

More feast than snack table.

We are expanding this into a larger Halloween food experience. The final menu is still being developed, but the direction is abundant, playful, seasonal, and visually unmistakably Halloween.

Candy station

A proper arrival candy station for both adults and children, with a clearly labeled gluten-free and vegan section and a separate traditional candy selection.

Halloween food

Warm seasonal dishes, eerie presentation, autumn produce, dark colors, bright garnishes, and food that feels intentionally created for the night rather than simply renamed for Halloween.

Jell-O shots, two ways

Halloween-themed non-alcoholic Jell-O shots for all ages and clearly separated alcoholic Jell-O shots for guests 21 and older.

For clarity + safety: alcoholic and non-alcoholic Jell-O shots will be distinctly labeled and presented separately. Gluten-free and vegan candy will also be separated and labeled, although the event environment itself cannot be guaranteed allergen-free.

Two sound guides · one layered field

Violin, gong, drum, crystal + vibration.

At 5:00 PM, Cat of Cat & Owl Alchemy and Elise Dixie Jane will build the outdoor Sound Bath together, layering live instruments, resonance, rhythm, and looping sound across the forest.

Cat · violin + sound

Cat’s violin will weave familiar Halloween melodies with her own eerie, atmospheric violin work and original seasonal compositions, alongside the broader sound field she brings to the gathering.

Elise · drum + crystal

Elise will join the Sound Bath with drum washing, looped crystal singing bowls, crystal harp, rattles, and layered textures that can build, repeat, dissolve, and move through the space.

Shared gong

Cat and Elise will both work with the gong, letting its resonance become one of the deeper anchors beneath the violin, crystal, percussion, and surrounding forest sounds.

There is still no expectation that you perform relaxation. Shift, sit up, lie down, step away, get water, care for a child, cough, cry, or move however your body needs. The sound field is there to meet you, not grade you.

Three ways to settle in

Choose your nest.

The October gathering uses three ticket tiers only. There is no Loft tier for this event.

Outdoor late October

Dress for beauty. Pack for cold.

This experience is planned outdoors at Wild Indigo Forest Farm, weather permitting. Late October can turn chilly quickly once the light drops, so bring more warmth than you think you will need.

Bring an extra ground layer

If you are settling on a cushioned mat, you are welcome to bring a blanket to place under your mat for another layer between your setup and the grass. Comfort and Reclined Comfort include a blanket for coziness, but anyone may bring a personal favorite, comforter, or sleeping bag.

Dress for the actual forest

Thermals, sweaters, warm socks, coats, gloves, hats, and shoes that make sense for grass and forest paths are encouraged. Layer under a costume rather than sacrificing warmth for the look.

Grass + gathering area

We will keep the grass in the outdoor Sound Bath area very short and treat the area with Saturday Lime as part of our outdoor-prep routine to help deter pesky little bugs.

Bug spray is available

Wild Indigo’s homemade bug spray will be available for anyone who would like it. You are also welcome to bring your own preferred insect repellent.

A little forest reality: this is an outdoor gathering in a living forest. We will do our part to make the space comfortable, but an occasional insect, leaf, breeze, acorn, or curious bit of nature may still make a cameo.

Cat & Owl Alchemy logo

Cat Moeller-Cunanan · Cat & Owl Alchemy

Catherine “Cat” Moeller-Cunanan is a musician, educator, sound practitioner, and founder of Cat & Owl Alchemy in New Albany, Indiana. A lifelong musician, she began playing guitar at the age of four under the guidance of her father before pursuing classical violin training. Throughout her career, she has performed in a wide range of musical settings, from symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles to electric violin and rock performances.

Cat earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University, along with two master’s degrees from Indiana University in Secondary Education and Educational Leadership. She also holds a Gifted and Talented certification from Western Kentucky University. After nearly 30 years as a public school orchestra director, she retired from education in 2025 to devote herself full-time to helping others through music and sound.

About a decade ago, Cat discovered the work of Tom Kenyon, whose integration of music, science, and healing inspired her to explore the therapeutic potential of sound. She earned professional sound-practitioner certification through the VSTA and later studied Vibroacoustic Therapy with Kate Kunkle of Costa Rica. To her knowledge, she is the only practitioner in Southern Indiana formally trained in this specialized modality.

Cat founded Cat & Owl Alchemy to create spaces where sound, intention, and commUnity come together to support relaxation, restoration, and personal well-being. She offers private sound and vibroacoustic sessions, commUnity sound baths, retreats, corporate wellness experiences, and educational programs. She currently facilitates monthly sound baths beneath the historic dome of the Parthenon in New Albany.

In addition to her healing work, Cat is expanding Cat & Owl Alchemy with the opening of Southern Indiana’s first plant-based apothecary refillery, providing environmentally conscious refill products that reduce single-use plastic while supporting healthier homes and a healthier planet.

Whether performing music, facilitating sound experiences, or educating others, Cat’s work is rooted in one guiding belief: that music has the extraordinary ability to connect, comfort, and transform lives.

Forest, craft, hospitality + stewardship

Wild Indigo Forest Farm is located in Clark State Forest. At the heart of the land is Knob N’ Wood, our off-grid, artisan-built strawbale-and-cob home and Retreat & Nature Center, shaped through natural-building craft, passive solar design, abundant natural light, and a masonry heater.

Across Wild Indigo, herbalism, gardens, forest-to-table hospitality, Earth art, trails, wetlands, seasonal gatherings, and thoughtful stewardship are woven together with care.

Before you arrive

A few practical questions.

Do I have to wear a costume?

No. Costumes are encouraged because it is Halloween and they are fun. Warm, ordinary clothing is completely welcome too.

Are children welcome?

Yes. This is being designed as a family-welcome gathering, not an adults-only event. Children can take part in the arrival experience, candy station, food, costumes, and Sound Bath alongside their grown-ups.

Will there be alcohol?

Yes. We are planning alcoholic Halloween Jell-O shots for guests 21 and older, alongside distinctly labeled non-alcoholic versions. Alcoholic offerings will be kept clearly separate from all-ages options.

Will there be gluten-free or vegan options?

Yes. The candy station will include a clearly separated gluten-free and vegan selection. The larger food menu is still being developed, so additional dietary details will be added once the menu is finalized.

Do I need to know anything about Samhain?

No. We will hold the seasonal context gently and explain anything guests are invited to participate in. You may opt out of any ritual or prompt.

Is this really outdoors?

Yes. Please plan for a late-October outdoor evening and bring more warmth than you think you will need. Any weather-related safety change will be sent directly to ticket holders.

What time should I arrive?

Arrival begins at 4:00 PM. The Sound Bath begins promptly at 5:00 PM, so please be parked and settled before then.

Give yourself time to arrive

Arrival + parking.

Please use the full one-hour arrival window beginning at 4:00 PM. Parking is spread across several areas of the property, and we’ll send the event-specific parking plan before the gathering so you know exactly where to go before you arrive.

Parking across the property

  • Knob N’ Wood Retreat Center lot: about 6–7 vehicles. These closest spaces are specifically reserved for guests who need additional mobility support.
  • Upper Ridge Sun Lot: about 4–5 vehicles. It is a two-minute-or-shorter walk down the knob. Shuttle service begins once this lot is full.
  • Forest Lot: about 5 vehicles. It is also a two-minute-or-shorter walk down the knob, with shuttle pickup available once shuttle service begins.
  • Knobstone Trailhead Overflow: up to about 25 vehicles. This is the primary overflow area and the main focus of our shuttle service once the Upper Ridge Sun Lot is full. Open the Knobstone Trailhead overflow map ↗
Watch for event parking signs before you even pull into the Wild Indigo driveway. If the closest area is full, signs will direct you clearly to the Upper Ridge Lot, Forest Lot, or Knobstone Trailhead Overflow.

Mobility support + shuttle help

The parking area directly beside Knob N’ Wood Retreat Center is intentionally held for guests who need the closest, simplest arrival route. If you need additional mobility support, please tell us ahead of time so we can reserve the right space and help plan your arrival.

Shuttle service begins once the Upper Ridge Sun Lot is full. From that point, the shuttle will run approximately every 10 minutes throughout the remainder of the arrival hour. Pickup is available from the Upper Ridge Sun Lot and Forest Lot, with our primary shuttle focus on the Knobstone Trailhead Overflow.

Please arrive during the full one-hour window and plan to be completely parked, walked or shuttled in, and settled before the Sound Bath begins at 5:00 PM. Once the session starts, late arrivals may need to wait for a natural transition before entering.

A note about our Harry Potter-inspired walk-up

Keeping the magic. Being clear about our values.

For more than twelve years, our family has built and added to a handmade Halloween walk-up inspired in part by the world of Harry Potter, alongside fairy houses, candlelight, and pieces that have become part of our own Halloween history. We want to be transparent about why we are choosing to bring that part of it back.

We strongly reject J.K. Rowling’s public positions and rhetoric regarding trans people. We believe trans people deserve safety, dignity, bodily autonomy, and the freedom to live and show up in the world as themselves. We also recognize that her statements and advocacy have been experienced as painful and harmful by many trans people and their loved ones.

At the same time, Harry Potter still holds complicated and deeply personal meaning for many people, including trans friends and family members in our own lives. Some of the trans people close to us have encouraged us not to surrender what those stories meant to them simply because the author has taken positions they reject.

For Elise, reading Harry Potter as a child was one of the first times a story made her feel less alone. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna, Neville, Hagrid, and that larger found-family world represented friendship, belonging, standing beside people who were treated as different, and making room for the strange kid at the edge of the room. That mattered to the kid carrying crystals in her pockets and peppermint oil before tests.

So this walk-up is not a celebration or endorsement of J.K. Rowling. It is a handmade callback to a fictional world that gave us a sense of magic, friendship, courage, and belonging. We hope to hold onto those parts while being completely clear about the people we stand beside now. If Harry Potter imagery here feels painful or uncomfortable to you, you are welcome to tell us. We would rather have an honest conversation than ask anyone to swallow discomfort in silence.
