Bed + Breakfast

Knob N' Wood is our indoor Retreat Hideaway on a hill. Built by Artisans for Artisans; our Retreat and Nature Center, Knob N' Wood, is a breath-taking build that shows its strong yet creative craftsmanship and the joy of its builders.
Completed with green and natural building design: natural lighting, cob and other natural building materials, passive solar heating; a masonry heater by Ken Matez of Fountainhead Natural Homes; and a strawbale wall system designed by Mark Hoberecht of HarvestBuild and accomplished on-site by Chris Fox of Fox’s Natural Building.

David Yasenchack Timber Framing and Design Carpenter The clerestory design is made of white oak, black cherry, walnut, black locust, and reclaimed douglas fir. Natural, live-edge arches of cherry and walnut serve as tie-beams. With a Tulip Poplar tree struck by lightning that was planted by the original owner and builder as a childand other on-site fallen trees, along with neighbors fallen trees being used as lumber.

Upon walking across the bridge from the driveway, you are greeted by Kentucky Wisteria and Native plants. When entering the stained glass door, you are met with a local stone floor, etched with Knob N Wood into the center. Not to mention natural mica powder is mixed into the cob to reflect light in an otherwise dark room. After gazing down at your toes, your eyes meet the three Custom Stained Glass Windows by Indiana Artist, GroovySquid Glass.

Once leaving the temperature controlled foyer, you are led into the open concept living space; with a wood-fired masonry heater, live-edge beams, and handmade art in every nook, cranny, and outlet (literally, shop ECArtAndPyrography)
Open Concept Library + Living Room
With an open floor concept and walls of windows overlooking the beautiful Native gardens, natural swimming Princess Leia's Pond, Daffodil Renewal Labryinth, and woodlands; you feel connected to the outdoors while indoors. On five of the walls throughout Knob N' Wood, you will find handpainted cob sculptures by Dano Paints of a Monarch, bat flying across a full moon, a leaf, acorns, plant vines, and sacred sunrise; exposing the strawbale insulation in the sun center.

Whether you leave the furniture on wheels, or move to accompany yoga mats and desired workshop tables; our indoor space currently hosts 20 yoga mats comfortably, with additional space in our Yoga Loft. Due to our current parking lot capacity, we are capping the total attendees and facilitators to 33 humans (until we expand our lots).

Kitchen + Dining Room
The artisan built fully-equipped kitchen leads with expertise and visibility when hosting a demonstration or hands-on workshop. With ample counter space for teaching, you will have the confidence to share a creative experience. Depending on what time the workshop takes places, our natural ship prisms will reflect sunlight. With handmade ceramic tiles reflecting Mother Earths seasons, a copper hood, cupboards depicting Mother Earths four natural rhythms/seasons, and walls covered with windows overlooking the forest, peace is found in the kitchen. The ceiling hosts ship prisms to reflect sunlight donw into the kirchen, from the above loft.

State of the Art Bathrooms
The bathrooms are wheelchair ♿️ & mobility friendly with safety bars and the ability to wheel under the sinks. Not to mention, a JAPANESE SOAKING TUB?!

Knob N' Wood offers handcrafted wood tables, free of charge, avaliable for workshops, events and dining. Additionally, our covered porch offers extra space for dining and table set up - overlooking the woodland and Native pollinator gardens.
