Wild Indigo Herbal Tea Tonics
An evening formula for stress, nervous-system settling + sleep support. Sleep Potion combines traditional sedative nervines with adaptogenic and calming herbs chosen for the transition from wired to rested.
Ingredients
Ashwagandha root, lavender, chamomile, blue vervain, passionflower, reishi mushroom, valerian root, skullcap and hops. Caffeine-free.
Medicinal Benefits of Each Herb
Ashwagandha root — stress + sleep. Human trials of standardized preparations suggest benefits for perceived stress and sleep quality in some people.
Lavender — anxiety + relaxation. Human research supports anxiety-reducing effects from standardized oral lavender preparations. Tea use is gentler and more traditional, but the calming reputation has real clinical support behind the plant.
Chamomile — anxiety + digestive calming. Preliminary clinical studies suggest chamomile extract may reduce generalized anxiety symptoms. Evidence for treating insomnia is weak, so we use it here primarily as a gentle calming and digestive herb.
Blue vervain — tension + nervous exhaustion. Traditionally used by Western herbalists for keyed-up tension, headache-prone stress patterns and muscular tightness. Human clinical evidence remains limited.
Passionflower — anxiety + total sleep time. Small human studies suggest passionflower may reduce anxiety and may improve total sleep time, though the evidence base is still modest.
Reishi mushroom — stress resilience + immune support. Reishi is traditionally used as a tonic for resilience and immune function. Human studies are mixed and do not establish it as a proven sleep treatment, so its role here is long-game tonic support rather than sedation.
Valerian root — sleep + restlessness. Valerian has a long medicinal history for insomnia and restlessness, but modern clinical trials are inconsistent. We include it as a traditional sedative nervine while being clear that evidence is mixed.
Skullcap — nervous tension. Traditionally used for restlessness, muscular tension and an overworked nervous system. Human clinical evidence is limited.
Hops — relaxation + sleep tradition. Hops has sedative activity in traditional herbal medicine and is commonly paired with valerian in evening formulas. Human evidence for hops alone is limited.
